THE WALK
The first step felt strange
A rush of excitement went through me
As I open my mind up to the possibilities
But then I felt a sense of uncertainty
As I heard the voices that cried out to me
“Don’t rock the boat” they said, “You have no idea
What you are getting into
It’s never been done, I wouldn’t try that if I was you”
Step two
I’m gaining confidence, despite the negativity in the air
For I am concentrating on another voice that I hear
It’s a voice that is calling me
It’s compelling me to move forward into my destiny
Step three
I’m focus on where I am going not where I’ve been
I’m thinking about future success
Not past mistakes, failures, and sins
Step four
I’m excited because it is God that has open this door
It’s fascinating this new world I am beginning to explore
I am starting to achieve a measure of success
And the fears and doubts I had are being laid to rest
Step five
But here comes the test
I feel a slight chill across my chest
As the winds of adversity began to blow
The sea of life is unstable
And the waves of doubt are causing me to second guess what I know
The dreadful darkness seems to be closing in
And now I feel lost and scared on this new journey
I don’t have the experience for this and I don’t have the degree
On top of that those who I left behind are watching me
They are watching me sink in this new thing I tried
I can hear their criticism from here
I wish I could run and hide
I know I heard God calling me to do this
But now it seems like He is nowhere to be found
“Lord save me! I am going down.
Because You said Come, I tried to do this
But I don’t see any way out, I am in a terrible fix.”
Step six
Jesus steps forward and stretches out His hand
“O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
He catches me and pulls me out
With His strength once again I am able to stand
Step Seven
We walk together, we talk together
Because I stepped out on faith, I now have an experience first hand
That those who I left behind will not be able to understand
So where ever God is leading you or whatever He is leading you to do
Don’t disobey because of fear
And don’t worry about the possibility that you may fall
Trust the Master, step out on faith, and answer His call

LIVING WATER
“And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
And he said, Come. And Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshiped him saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.”
-Matthew 14:22-33 KJV
Poetic Insight:
“Do you trust God? How much? When Jesus said Come, he did not say Peter Come. All the disciples heard the command but only one stepped out of the boat. Jesus offered them an experience that would change their life and their testimony forever, but only one was willing to trust God enough to move in the direction of His voice. The disciples got in the boat to go unto the other side as Jesus had instructed, but in the mist of obeying Jesus they refused to heed His call into an unconventional way to cross the sea…by walking.
Peter is remembered for sinking after getting frighten, but let’s not forget that Peter did have enough faith to leave his comfort zone (at the instruction of Jesus) in order to experience something he never had before. The Holy Bible does not record the number of steps that Peter took and it doesn’t record any comments made by the other disciples while Peter was walking.
Often when people take steps of faith there are people there to tell you why you shouldn’t try what you are trying. They tell you how it doesn’t make sense and how they don’t see any way that it could work. They remind you of your past and your failures. They remind you how you may not have the right look, the right degree, the right experience, the right color, the right credit, or the right connections to accomplish what it is that God has called you to do. These are often people you look up to or look to for support. These are often fellow “believers” who don’t believe. They say that they are looking out for you because they love you and don’t want to see you hurt. They often are sincere. However, they can be wrong because their perspective is tainted by pains, disappointments, and fears from their own life. People can love you right out of your destiny!!! Remember there were occasions were Peter commented that Jesus would not be crucified and when he took a sword to one of the men who had come to capture Jesus…but it was Jesus’ destiny to take that walk to Calvary because it was the will of God his Father. I am not talking about disobeying or disrespecting spiritual authority, I am not talking about ignoring godly counsel, I am not talking about you going off doing something based on a feeling, and I am not talking about you making a decision in pride and doing your own thing your own way because you think you know better than everyone else.
What I am talking about is you not doing what God has called you to do because you are afraid. When Jesus said Come, Peter did not have a prayer meeting; he didn’t call someone for a word of conformation; he simply obeyed.
What is it that you know God is calling you to do? Is He calling you to start a business; to sing a song; to write a book; to write a play; into another career; to leave a relationship; into a relationship; to go back to school; to forgive someone; to help someone, to take a vacation, to start a family, to spend more time with Him? Stop trying to decide if you will be able to do what God is calling you to do and decide to trust him. (What’s in your hand Moses?)
There is a team building exercise called the trust walk. In this exercise groups are split up into teams of two. One team member is blindfolded. The other team member has to lead them across whatever terrain they are on to a certain point. The team member who is guiding the blindfolded person cannot touch the blindfolded person. They can only lead them by voice commands such as; step forward; take two steps to the left, be careful you are approaching steps, duck because there is a tree limb, or stand still for a moment. The blindfolded person cannot see where he or she is going so they have to rely on the voice of their partner to get them to their destination safely. You may not be able to see how you are going to achieve what God is calling you to do, but put your trust in Jesus, obey His voice, and get ready to experience the walk of a lifetime…a closer walk with Jesus. By the way, if you fall remember that in your trust walk with Jesus your partner is allowed to touch you. He is calling you…will you come? His hand is stretched out to you…will you take it?

Wow, for a minute there I had to look around to see if you were in the room. I’m hearing your voice these days. Keep stacking these beautiful stories. It is a very spiritual thing that we poets do. Spoken Word materializes into realities. This world is in dire need of people who speak of better days and truth. Continue to inspirer brother.
